Giants on the Horizon

Taken in Samburu National Reserve, in northern Kenya, while staying at Elephant Watch Camp y a beautiful, low-impact camp set along the Ewaso Ngiro River. Samburu has a slightly different character to many of the more famous Kenyan reserves: drier, more rugged, with its own specific wildlife adapted to the semi-arid landscape, giraffes among them.

This trio were moving together across open ground, that distinctive, almost slow-motion giraffe gait, all long necks and longer legs. In black and white, the texture of the landscape and the giraffes' patterning blend into something more graphic and timeless than the colour original - three shapes against the horizon, walking with no particular urgency, the way giraffes generally do.
